CLAT 2015 to be conducted online

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2015 under the Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) will be conducted online. This was approved by the CLAT core committee meeting held on Saturday. Candidates qualifying CLAT will be eligible for admissions in LLB and LLM in National Law Universities across the country.

RMLNLU vice-chancellor Prof Gurdip Singh, also the CLAT convener, said, "The online process will ensure efficiency and transparency in the examination process. Right from filling up the forms to the final fee submission, everything will be online.''

The online filling of forms will begin on January 1 and continue till March 31. The examination will be held May 10. The test will be held in 28 cities, eight more than last year.

The university will put an online testing protocol on the website where the candidates can look at the procedure. At the time of examination, candidates will go through an orientation on how to appear for the exam. Trained invigilators will be present for support, officials said.

There has been no change in the examination fee. The number of participating universities this year is 16, one more than last year. Damodaran Sanjeevaiya National Law University, Andhra Pradesh is the latest addition. There are around 350 seats in LLM and around 1,700 in LLB.

A decision is yet to be taken regarding the agency that will conduct the exam. "Already, five agencies have made their presentations to us. We have another three in the fray. The entire process will take around 20 days to finalize," officials said.

CLAT 2014 was surrounded by controversy. Less than 24 hours after the results were declared in May this year, CLAT core committee withheld them, citing technical discrepancies. Gujarat National Law University which conducted the test claimed that barcode stickers of some of the answer sheets did not match the candidates' stickers leading to hundreds of candidates complaining of discrepancy in marks.

With CLAT going to be held online, students seeking admission in LLM will have objective questions only. Earlier, the question paper was half objective and half descriptive.
